Rango Willys MB Review: Memorial Day 2024
Always cool to see what others have for a setup, I definitely need to down size mine.🤔
nice work!
...And solid work as always. 👍🏼
I appreciate that
Hearty chuckle @ donut. 🤣
lookin' good
Thank you
Cool stuff
Having never actually had a left and towards me reverse, I’ve always wanted one. I definitely thought the t98 with the right and fwd reverse was a downgrade from the t90 left and forward. I do remember my friends rabbit where first and reverse were seemingly in the same place (left/fwd) you never knew which way it was gonna go from a stop light. ;)
That saw jig is over the top! Nice
List makes my ADD manageable. Love to see how you use the board!
Awesome Brennan! As always, extremely well thought out with excellent craftsmanship!
Thank you!
😎
Keep up the good work always looking forward for updates
Thanks! Will do!
The list is getting shorter.
It is, but I'll fill it back up again soon.
brother! I love the detail! much respect!
Much appreciated
What transmission is in the old blue willy's ???
It is an SM420 from the original donor
If you need new oem jeep parts , look no further than a freind of my,C&C equipment, Scott is the Jeep side of the C&C equipment company, the owner is Clint and Bridget, jay and her answer the phones, and it’s on UA-cam,and when you click on the channel the phone number is in the introduction, okthanks BigAL California.
This should be interesting! I had a ‘94 Cherokee that was similar in function. Could sleep inside 1 person with gear still inside or 2 people inside if I removed the ice chest. It was pretty long in the tooth so I upgraded to a 2010 Silverado crew cab. Hauls more gear, better fuel mileage but sleeping 2 comfortably without unpacking gear is limited to reclining the front seats and passing out. These were not really “wheeling” rigs more like adventuring/hunting vehicles. Look forward to watching your build on this.
Yup, my F350 with the Flippac feels like a motorhome compared to the JKU. I'm carefully trying to balance off road capability vs camping. The goal is having something that could drive 1000 miles with cruise control and AC to something like the Dusy-Ershim....camp for a week inside on the trail....and then drive back home. I think that is a good benchmark to shoot for.
Im planning air rid on my jk so i can run 5 to 6 inchs of travel for cruising and speed and lower it for technical crawling.
Air springs could be fun for leveling the vehicle when camping.....especially if you could do it from a bluetooth app on your phone while laying in bed.....ha.
For the windshield why not run a set of the hood windshield bumpers to a pad on the windshield frame? maybe put in a captured nut or something and run something like the TJ door surround knob bolts if you really want to secure it.
Generally, I don't want to add anything to the A-pillar of the cage that will mess up the lines when the windshield is down. It needs to be compact and clean looking. I've got a few ideas brewing....
there is a place making hammocks for the inside of these, might be an option.
hmm interesting idea with the no wheel. Like the idea.
I love my hammock setup when outside, but I don't see the point inside a jeep if you already have a nice flat(ish) place to sleep.
I've been going wheel-less for many years now. It saves an amazing amount of space because you can use the storage volume inside the tire. A 40" tire is something close to 60 gallons ( ~225 liters ) of storage.
@@brennanmetcalf able to sleep above gear and not need a sleeping pad I guess. I like the sleep support from hammocks myself. Shouldn't need all the insulation as outdoors either.
@@CraigGrunenfelder I really want full sitting height in this for the solo sleep arrangement. I've been hammock camping for 20+ years, but I think it would make inside vehicle sleeping clunky. If you are hovering over stuff, it's going to be a minefield trying to get in and out.
I've been a fan since the Do it All Dodge. Have you seen Jantz's video about putting 40s on a JK with no lift?
Thanks for following along! I remember seeing a few people try 40s with no lift....but I also like a bit of uptravel ( 5-6" ) and good shocks these days too. I hope I can find a balance at a conservative lift height.
Electrical tape has come in handy for me more than once. Putting an igniter in my furnace was hard because the screws go in from the bottom. I used tiny pieces of tape over the holes and pushed the screws in. It held them in place until i tightened them. It also works for drilling small holes in thin plexiglass. No cracks. Lol
Very interesting 👍
I like grab handles like that that also work as a gusset from one tube to another :)
Do a rubber bumper and a strap
I like the strap idea, thanks!
I was wondering if you have a suggestion or solution. For Buick odd fire with 1 bore intake manifold. I want to go to 2 barrel carb. I couldn’t find 2 bore intake manifold. Do you know how I can adapt 2 barrel carb to the one bore manifold?
You could probably, but it would choke the 2bbl down a lot and kill a few inches of overall height. Keep looking for a 2bbl intake, they are out there.
Nice video 👍
Thanks 👍
Thanks for bringing us along! Love the process and the product, and you’re killing the presentation. Good show. 💪
thank you very much
I can get why you wouldn't sell the exhaust mock up bits at least for a printed part, but lord the existing product I could easily find is rather expensive... the cheapest kit I saw was like $800. That's a lot of money for like $50 worth of plastic, worth it for a hot rod shop, way too much for a hobbyist.
I believe the existing company selling the blocks has some IP protection on the idea. As I said, I'll help someone out with a custom set for a fair price if they ask, but I am not going to market them. They actually take a decent amount of time to print that can be used for my other products usually.
37s?
35x13.5r15 on 10" wheels
What size were those bolts for the fly wheel ??? If I heard correctly those may be the same bolts for the iron duke !
fine thread 7/16 flange head with a very thin hex section, I believe just under 1" long.
Is there a video of the extended firewall for foot room?
I showed the end result a few times, but the actual process was before I started doing videos. If you search #oldbluewillys on IG or FB, there will be pictures of the process.
My favorite jeep in the world, even all these years later since you built it. thanks for sharing!
Thank you very much
Check out Venture4wd. His simple and highly functional solo tourer JKU build has been tried and true for many years.
That looks oem of topic what is your opinion on the lv3 v6 from gm in a flat fender
I'd love to do a flatty with an LV1/LV3, but to fit properly they would need a shorter ol pan ( available ), and a shorter car style Intake. Unfortunately, the only ones I have seen are custom cut down LT v8 units made from aluminum.
Can you consider making the rango frame plates in a kit I’m sure many people will be interested in purchasing them save us a lot of time😅😅😅 rango has a huge fallowing
I've looked at it a few times, shipping just the plates around seems to be ridiculously expensive vs. the cost of the plates. The cut file is posted in the Rango build thread. Having them done locally to you is going to be much more feasible.
Can you provide the cut files in a usb mail order $ I’m having trouble downloading them I have the frame plans but not the cut files
Right click and then 'save as', don't try to open the file directly.
What's the story on the air filter?
It's a Donaldaon Powercore filter that is sold by Volant. They are the best filters on the market, in my opinion.
Great stuff! Love that hi tech serpentine belt!
That is stock for this engine, but it is a nice belt package.
No expert! Yeah right yes you are.
Thank you. I always try to be learning something new
Man, I would definitely move the battery to the inside and use that space for the computer. A lot less to package through the firewall.
I've run batteries inside in fatties, they eat up a ton of space. It's all a series of compromises. I'm investigating some other (smaller) computer options that may give me more options.
This is going to be a fun build. Im sure it will be amazing as all your 4x4s are nice rides.
Thank you very much. I honestly thought I would find more off the shelf products to make the build process go faster....but I am picky.....
When you bought that thing I was really surprised 😂 not that I'm not excited to see if you ever build this eventually
Thanks for following along. Gotta mix it up to keep things interesting.
I original had that computer on my '02 engine, but I went with an earlier version of the computer with the non-emissions. You might want to decide on wiring harness before you worry about computer mount.
Tacco vs VW bus who won at the end ?of
I wasn't going to stick around to find out.
